Bug#420408: (no subject)
Subject: upgrade-reports: Had to manually remove umpteen packages to make upgrade proceed
Package: upgrade-reports
Severity: normal
*** Please type your report below this line ***
I upgraded a host that had been installed with testing on
Sat Oct 23 04:48:17 EEST 2004
(using Sarge installer, daily netinst.iso 2004-10-21)
I guess problems during upgrade to etch were caused by numerous
installed and removed packagas on this host, both Debian and third party
programs. It was pretty hard to get the upgrade to complete, since it
kept stopping. The error messages are in Finnish, sorry:
^MLuen tehtäväkuvauksia... 0% ^M^MLuen tehtäväkuvauksia...
2%^M^MLuen tehtäväkuvauksia... Valmis^M
E: Virhe, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve tuotti katkoja, syynä voi olla
pysytetyt paketit.
E: En pysty korjaamaan riippuvuuksia; joitain paketteja ei voi asentaa
E: Unable to resolve some dependencies!
Joidenkin pakettien riippuvuuksia ei voinut tyydyttää. Tämä voi johtua
antamistasi mahdottomista vaatimuksista tai, jos käytät epävakaata
jakelua,
siitä, ettei joitakin vaadittuja paketteja ole vielä saatavilla.
Näillä paketeilla on tyydyttämättömiä riippuvuuksia:
mozplugger: Riippuvuudet: libx11-6 mutta se ei ole asennettavissa tai
xlibs (> 4.1.0) mutta se ei ole
asennettavissa
I had to by trial and error do
aptitude remove ..this and that..
to get upgrade to proceed. I kept adding packages to the aptitude remove
command until it magaded to actually do the remove. Seemed the best bet
was to include all the packages mentioned in the error messages to the
remove -command.
I did finish the upgrade eventually and the host booted OK etc, so the
upgrade worked. But it was a bit tiresome, could be easier.
