2.4.21pre6 kernel Load problem on/for sun4u

Now that I can get a kernel compile to work, I was wondering if there's any way to overcome the kernel size limit that seems to be hitting me.

The kernel I built seems to be too big to be loaded at boot time.

I however want to build a kernel with as few modules as possible.

I heard something along the lines of some new system in place to load 2.5.x kernels [which are larger(?)].

Is there any way I can load a kernel image larger than ~1.3Mb on an ultrasparc machine?
