Yes, this helps a lot, thanks!
Now cups copies the ppd file to /tmp instead of creating a symlink.

(By the way, the cups test suite hangs in pbuilder, printing endless 
lines of:
Waiting for scheduler to become ready...)

Indeed this should be fixed, because starting an infinite loop is a 
rather bad failure mode.
