Hello / backports

Hi all,

It was today when I realised I will soon have a bit of time to get into
audio recording again. After looking at the demudi and agnula
websites, I finished up in #d-m on IRC.

I was wondering if there were any Ardour backports for Etch. There was
nothing on backports.org, and the demudi repository was older than Etch.
I don't want to run a >stable box, and I thought I'd pop by before
rolling my own. edrz told me that there is currently no centralized
collection of backported audio packages, so I said I'd help out.

Currently, I have built libcairo 1.4.10, cairomm 1.4.2, and ardour
2.0.5. They seem okay, so I have made them publically available at:
http://bruford.wayforth.co.uk/~antony/debian-multimedia/.

If anyone wants to test and examine the packages, that would be great,
and if there is demand (surely I can't be the only one), I'm happy to
backport other packages as well, and build up a proper repository, with
a simple HTML page of explanation.

Other packages I'm interested in are hydrogen, hydrogen-drumkits (not
much backporting there I think!), muse, jack-audio-connection-kit,
jamin, and all the packages that provide ladspa-plugin, namely blop,
caps, cmt, ladspa-sdk, mcp-plugins, omins, swh-plugins, tap-plugins,
vcf, however most of these appear to be fully developed.

I would like to concentrate on packages where development is
fast-moving, and out of all of the above, ardour seems to be moving
quickest. Perhaps you could give me a clue as to what might else be
worth backporting from a d-m perspective.

Antony
