Either you or I are talking at cross wires.  I said that in response
to your proposal to use gdbm for dpkg's database.  And I said
"nononon" because a) gdbm is obsolete and deprecated, and b) I don't
agree with the idea of going to a non-ASCII database for dpkg.

I have zero opinion on using db files for passwd purposes, and
wouldn't have commented on it, if I had read it as that.
