installation

Please, help.
I am trying to install live dfs, following instructions in
Debian Life Manual (http://live.debian.net/), 16.2 Tutorial 1: A standard image

$ mkdir /etc/live
mkdir: cannot create directory `/etc/live': Permission denied

$ su
$ password

# mkdir /etc/live

# touch /etc/live/build.conf

# gedit /etc/live/build.conf
contents put in build.conf:
   LB_MIRROR_BOOTSTRAP="http://mirror/debian"
   LB_MIRROR_CHROOT="http://mirror/debian"
   LB_MIRROR_CHROOT_SECURITY="http://mirror/debian-security"

$ mkdir tutorial1 ; cd tutorial1 ; lb config

System information
Computer: PCG-F680(UC) Sony
      Pentium III Speed: 700 MHz
      RAM 248 MB
      HDD 40 GB
Network: No proxy
     gateway: Motorola router VT2442 + optical modem - works OK on all connections
Host: Debian Squeeze

Mirror configuration copied from Life Manual (build.conf).

Found no web information (specific to live Debian?).
What do I do next?

BTW, pardon me, why is debian-squeeze-live-beta2-i386-lxde-desktop.iso 750 MB? - does not fit on CD.
