Suspend/Reboot issues on a Pavilion dv5 laptop
Hi there,
I've got an HP Pavilion dv5 laptop loaded with Lenny. Everything works
smoothly under the amd64 kernel version 2.6.32 I have installed from
sid. I installed this kernel for its presumably better support with
hibernate/suspend and with the hope that it will eliminate a weird thing
that happened at reboot or suspend on older kernels even up to 2.6.30 in
Lenny backports. Every time I suspended/rebooted my laptop a strange
noise was produced by the laptop audio speakers which kind of bothered
and I thought it can damage the hardware. Upgrading the kernel has
solved the problem at suspend but the same thing still happens at
reboot. The noise is not the same always. Some times its louder than
other times and some times lasts more. It's something like the sound of
an explosion at a far distance!
Another problem (which does not bother as much) is that after the laptop
resumes from suspend the screen is dimmed to the lowest level when on AC
power (both suspend to RAM and disk). This happens 'only' on the first
suspend and after that resume works normally with the right screen
brightness set until the next reboot. The problem is independent of
which desktop environment is being used (KDE or Gnome). Things work
relatively perfectly when on battery, however. Something that I have
noticed is that after hibernating when the laptop is turned on again the
screen is completely dim from the very beginning even during POST.
So my two problems specifically are:
1. Speakers produce noise at reboot.
2. Screen is dimmed to the lowest level after resuming from the first
suspend.
Below is the output of lspci and lsmod. If that might be relevant, I
use the proprietary nVidia driver. I don't know if any other details
are needed so let me know if I should give more information.
