Bug#639780: linux-image-3.0.0-1-amd64: Regression in automatic audio output switching on ASUS G72-GX laptop

Hi Jonathan,

I'm using gnome-volume-control mixer from package gnome-media 2.30.0-1,
screenshot with available switches and volume controls attached.

As for additional info - i will post it a bit later, applying your notes
to testing process + I’ll try more up-to-date gnome-media package set
from experimental, probably it includes capability to control behavior.

Should i post results here or direct them to alsa-project.org, or both?

Regards,
-av

I suspect this is due to the following change:

commit 1a1455de10d8 (tags/v3.0-rc1~51^2~12^2~57)
Author: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de>
Date: Thu Apr 28 17:36:18 2011 +0200

ALSA: hda - Add support for Line-Out automute to Realtek auto-parser

By popular demands, I add the functionality to mute / unmute the
line-out jacks per the headphone plug / unplug. For achieving this
and keeping the compatibility with the old behavior, the new mixer
enum "Auto-Mute Mode" is added. With this, user can control the
    auto-mute behavior either disabled, speaker-only or lineout+speaker.

What mixer do you use? Does it not have a way to choose the Auto-Mute
Mode value for your headphones?

If the behavior still seems worse than ideal, before talking to
upstream at alsa-devel@alsa-project.org (moderated for
non-subscribers) and cc-ing this bug log it probably would be useful
to test without the nvidia and virtualbox drivers and as recent a
kernel as possible (e.g., the one from experimental, although I don't
see any relevant recent changes).

Thanks and hope that helps,
Jonathan
