Comments/Problems:
The installer didn't detect the network card (Intel 82574L).
It prompted me for the driver, I choosed e1000e, the module was correctly
loaded,
but the network card isn't supported.
So, I downloaded from Intel the e1000e driver, version e1000e-0.5.8.2.tar.gz
and
compiled it on a VMWare virtual machine with lenny installed and updated as
of 20081217.
I burnt the shiny new e1000e.ko on CD.
Then (on the single-board computer):
modprobe -r e1000e.ko
cp /cdrom/e1000e.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-486/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
Then turn back on the installation menu, and choose again e1000e as the
driver.
This time the network card is up and running, and I completed the
installation successfully.
Upon reboot, the network card wasn't functioning again, since the running
kernel was -686
(instead of -486).
So I compiled the same driver on my VMWare virtual machine with a 686
kernel, and
cp /cdrom/e1000e.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.26-1-686/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko
The network card was then running again :)
Please update the e1000e driver in lenny!
NOTE: my current e1000e driver IS MY e1000e MODULE, COMPILED FROM INTEL
so the hardware-summary below IS USING THE NEW (from intel) e1000e
