etch on IBM xSeries 330

Hi,

I have several IBM 330 servers and am trying to upgrade them to etch  
from sarge, but the 2.6.18 kernel just hangs after attaching sdb.  I  
have tried these boot param changes:

acpi=off apic=noapic

Before those options it would hang after the CDROM driver load.

Can you please help me get the 2.6 kernel running on these old beasts?
