I remember this modem. It could be had on the Sysop Supra deal. It was
tiny for the time too, a VERY good modem. Second only to the Courier,
which is still an awesome modem, even if you have one that was made >5
years ago =)
There are modems which do this, in fact we sell a 'cheapy' (no name) USB
modem that does exactly this, in a tray icon.
