emlocale version 0.0.1 Usage: emlocale <packages...> emlocale -u|--update Options: -v|--verbose: be verbose -q|--quiet: be quietemlocale is intended to separate out the individual translation files from a single Debian package into an .mdeb package without any translation files and a series of .mdeb locale packages, one per translation. Generated packages use the syntax:
$package-locale-$language_$emdebianversion_$arch.emdebDefault operation checks the specified package for translation files and prints the additional control data required to define the individual translation packages. (uses apt-cross).
Update mode (currently disabled - testing ongoing) requires that emlocale is run in a Debian source tree and will check the Debian package for existing locale packages before appending locale package data to debian/control.
Update mode is easy to implement in CDBS packages - ideas on how to ensure Package: additions to debian/control contain the correct files in non-CDBS are welcome.
:-) Amendments to debian/control would become part of the emdebian diff.gz. This principle is a copy of the OpenEmbedded build. In Debian: libqof1_0.7.2-1_arm.deb libqof-backend-sqlite0_0.7.2-1_arm.deb libqof-dev_0.7.2-1_arm.deb libqof-doc_0.7.2-1_arm.deb libqof-backend-qsf0_0.7.2-1_arm.deb In Emdebian: libqof1_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-backend-sqlite_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-dev_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-en-gb_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-id_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-pt-br_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-ro_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-sv_0.7.2em1_arm.mdeb libqof-locale-vi_0.7.2em1_arm.mdebBinary packages will become smaller - especially foo-common and foo-data packages.
Creates more packages in the repository but allows users to only install necessary translation(s).
Enjoy.(ToDo: create a virtual locale package / emlocale mode that either knows or can find out the names of matching locale packages for those being installed. Users could then apt-get install virtual-locale-pt-br to get all available brazilian portuguese translations without any vietnamese or swedish etc. - in reality, users would simply select their locale and emdebian would need to determine and install the locale package.)
