Speaking of: Could everyone who is still considering himself active
within the Apache packaging team make a short ping in this thread?
My intention to ask is to find out what's a reasonable number of
opinions to reach "consensus" here and I guess neither you nor do I want
to offend anyone here.
As a side note: Yes, ASF uses SVN upstream, but they do also provide a
git gateway, see [1][2].

That's exactly what I did in my quick and dirty approach. That said,
there is not really any advantage over dpatch if you continue to patch
manually in rules afterwards.
I will work on Apache next week and send patches until next weekend you
all may comment. Any more discussion on that after putting things
together I'd say.
