Boot on CD for initial install: the kernel tries to mount the root from the disk
I try to install Debian on an AlphaServer 1200 (Rawhide) with the
standard "woody" CD. SRM starts, I "b dka500", aboot is loaded, then I
choose configuration 0 (ordinary kernel, local console), the Linux
kernel starts but stops when trying to mount the root FS, complaining
that I did not indicate the UFS type.
This machine had Tru64 before. Apparently, the kernel believes it
should mount a partition on the hard disk as a root FS.
I checked aboot configuration and I also booted by hand to be sure
that I had "b boot/linux load_ramdisk=1 root=/dev/ram
initrd=boot/initrd.bin" and it still tries to mount from the hard disk
:-(
