Kernel FP software completion

Hi,

In 2.2.0 (as opposed to the 2.2.0-pre series), there is now a "Kernel FP
software completion" option. Help says:

CONFIG_MATHEMU:

This option is required for IEEE compliant floating point arithmetic
on the Alpha. The only time you would ever not say Y is to say M
in order to debug the code. Do not say anything but Y unless you
know what you are doing.

So, my question is, why does Alpha suddenly require math emulation when it
didn't before? Isn't FP one of the Alpha's strongest areas?

Thanks,
John
