Bug#790408: Open license questions for dendropy [ftpmaster@ftp-master.debian.org: python-dendropy_4.0.3-1_amd64.changes REJECTED]

Hi Jeet,

unfortunately python-dendropy took *way* longer than I had hoped and it
turns out that we need more clarification for the license. The file
LICENSE.rst says:

All DendroPy documentation, (non-logo) images and other media, as
provided online or otherwise distributed, can be used in accordance with the
 `Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

that contains
"You may not use the material for commercial purposes."

In Debian terms this is non-free and I would need to drop the
documentation from the package. I think this is not in the interest of
the users but if you consider this as an appropriate license there is no
other way for the package.

Moreover we can not find any license information for the data files that
have been downloaded from TreeBase.

Could you please be so kind to clarify these issues?

Thanks for your cooperation

    Andreas.

Hi Andreas,

as the source tarball contains a doc-directory, this sentence from the
license file is not nice:
All DendroPy documentation, (non-logo) images and other media, as
provided online or otherwise distributed, can be used in accordance with the
 `Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License

Also I could not find any license information for the data files that
have been downloaded from TreeBase.

  Thorsten
