It’s bios/chipset dependent. Example: the Intel 945 will not allow more than 3.25GB or so regardless if PAE is used. However, the Intel 965 chipset will provide the full 4GB if used with PAE enabled and the BIOS allows it by default or has a ‘remap’ option.
