there is also firmware-ivtv and xserver-xorg-video-ivtv. I htink you have
those, but who knows. I would try this way anyway
Try using following to grab the camera
mplayer -fps 10 -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0
tv://
-fps in my case 10 is compromise - you can try higher values
note v4l2 ;-)
