I don't have to use the new kernel. Whatever works... But, what is Debian Jessie?

Is new kernel essential?
For example, I am using Debian Jessie with a kernel 3.2 from Wheezy
release because of some driver problems.

If this is not a variant for you, I guess you should dig into
framebuffer info.
