You don't need to be root to mount a CD, the user in your fstab line says
that.

Under X Emacs opens in a different envirnment with menus and mouse usage.
You can either go to a text konsole with Ctrl+Alt+Fn (where n is 1-6) and
switch back to X with Alt+F7, login as root and edit fstab. The other way
is to allow root to connect to your X server, see man X and man xhost.
