I like "glimmer" (aka "CodeCommander" and "Latte").
It's an source-code/programming editor for Gnome
with lots of nice features. (check out: http://glimmer.sourceforge.net)
on the console I prefer the good old "mcedit".
it has the best syntax highlighting. VIM is nice, too.
