Re: PS/2 mouse
Check /etc/gpm.conf, mine is:
# /etc/gpm.conf - configuration file for gpm(1)

responsiveness=
repeat_type=raw
type=ps2

Debian default was repeat_type=ms3
Without above change, X needs to be set to serial MS 3 button mouse.
