Problema ext2 al recompilar el nucleo.

Hola,

He compilado el nucleo (2.4.16), y ahora no me arranca. Me dice lo siguiente:

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) readonly.
Mounted devfs on /dev
Freeing unused kernel memory: 220k freed
INIT: version 2.83 booting
Activating swap.
Checking root file system...
fsck 1.25 (20-sep-2001)
fsck.ext2: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda3
(null):
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contanins an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock
  e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. Please note
that the root file system is currently mounted read-only. To
remount it read-write:
  # mount -n -o remount, rw /
CONTROL-D will exit from this shell and REBOOT the system.
Give root password for maintenance
(or type Control-D for normal startup):

Si entro como root, /dev/hda3 está montado solo lectura como dice ahí. El
problema es que me da mucha aprensión hacer el e2fsck que sugiere ya que con
el 2.2.17 que venía por defecto funciona todo estupendamente.

¿Alguna ayuda?

Gracias. Saludos.
