Oh my gosh. Losing formatting would indeed be not severe. Distortingcontents is IS severe, especially if this goes unnoticed. Heavenknows how much text has already been and will be silently changed inall the years of Debian 12. Therefore, a kind request: please push itinto the next update of Debian (12.1) or at least one of the nextupdates.
Clone this bug to create a fix for bookworm.

I've uploaded the revision -8 to unstable, which is a prereq for havinga fix in bookworm. I've uploaded packages for bookworm to here [1].Would be nice if you could patch your system and test them. At leastyour example is solved.
