Bug#285724: tetex-bin: latex vanishes during upgrade from stable to testing

Hi Frank,

For a list of my current list of packages given by:
  'dpkg --get-selections'
please see:
  http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/ania/ania_packages_dec04.txt

Of the packages you listed in your email, the following match:
  libkpathsea3 install
  tetex-base install
  latex2html install
  texinfo install
  tetex-extra install
  tetex-base install
  libkpathsea3 install
  tetex-bin install

Since the upgrade, I have used 'apt-get install' to get the following
packages only:
  tetex-bin
  gnuhtml2latex
  latex2html
Before the upgrade, I had not installed either jadetex nor latex2html.
So unless they automatically came with something, I would not have had
them.

I don't have a log of the upgrade in any rigorous form, but I did note
down a few things for myself.
  http://www.cs.washington.edu/homes/ania/upgrade_to_testing.txt
Basically, after changing the file that says where I get packages from
to have it use testing instead of stable, I ran 'apt-get update' and
'apt-get upgrade'. They kept having problems with libxt6. I tried the
'apt-get -f install libxt6' and that also failed. It said something
about a conflic with 'groff', so I removed the following from
/var/lib/dpkg/info/groff.list:
  /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults
  /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults/GXditview
and then 'apt-get update' and 'apt-get upgrade' did their stuff. I
don't recall whether I used 'apt-get dist-upgrade' or not.

The rest of the installation proceeded without weirdness nor trouble.
Except my brother had to do some magic to get the wireless to work, but
I can't remember what it was. I don't believe he installed stuff; he
just changed configuration files. I accepted package-installer's versions
of scripts with very few minor exceptions that I doubt would be related to
this.

This is a 3+ year old computer and until now has always run 'stable', so
I'm pretty sure it started out with potato once upon a time.

Ania
