RE: How to prevent starting the PCMCIA services

Dear Edwin,

First, check etc/modules. If there's nothing in there that loads
pcmcia_core directly, the kernel module daemon is probably calling it, so
you need to remove the PCMCIA services to get rid of the module.

If you don't need the PCMCIA services, Debian should detect this and ask you
if you want them removed. If you do need them but don't want them
temporarily, you can remove the PCMCIA link in rc2.d (and the ones rc3.d,
4.d and 5.d as well, for good measure). Don't remove the link in rc6.d or
rc1.d. I don't have PCMCIA installed on my system right now, but as I think
the links in rc2-5 should look something like "S20pcmcia".

If Debian didn't automatically remove the PCMCIA packages, and you're sure
you'll _never_ want them, you can also remove the PCMCIA package entirely
with dselect.

A pre-compiled kernel in Debian always load the pcmcia_core module.

Can I prevent starting this services without re-compiling the kernel?
