pre-selections replaced by tasksel and task-* -- does it work?



As you may know, in potato, the pre-selections mechanism has been
replaced with the tasksel pkg and the metapackages, 'task-*'.  But
does that system really work as well as preselections?  How could it
be improved?

I hope some of you who are interested take the time to look at it in
detail, and file the bugs against tasksel and the task-* pkgs which
need them.  I worry that the task-* pkgs, developed in isolation, may
not really cover/include the dependancies which are really needed for
doing functional stuff with the pkgs...
