OT Re: Debian Science Policy (was: adding mpich to pkg-scicomp)
I subscribed to debian-science in order to lurk to learn about the
state of free software for various scientific endeavors. Now it
appears to be a window on the internal politics of Debian.

I had, I picked up the idea that 'alioth' was the name of a server
within the debian collection of servers. Now it appears to be an
organization - with human members, and human goal, and ambitions.
I hesitate to do a Google search for fear that the hits that I get
will be seriously misleading because of human special pleading.
Where is there an official Debian statement of what Alioth is?
Or is it, like the 19th century Free Masons, a secret organization?
With a secret handshake? And other dark things? ;-)
