First of all, while I'm part of the Qt/KDE team I haven't been paying attention to the KDE stuff lately, so please don't take this as the team's words but just mine. As far as I understand we need this exact version of virtuoso for nepomuk. No older, no newer. Yes, KDE is switching to baloo, which is actually sitting in NEW IIRC. But that doesn't means that everything has switched to it yet. And no, i don't know which is the plan for baloo and jessie. We would definitely like to orphan virtuoso once we don't need it, but we still do.
