Hi hplip maintainers-- http://bugs.debian.org/594823 asks for documentation to suggest adding users to the "lp" group if they want to scan on HP multi-function scanners. Putting this information in the NEWS file for the hplip package is insufficient, because some people may install only libsane-hpaio without the hplip package. On such installations, there is no clear indication that membership in the 'lp' group is needed to scan from these devices. /usr/share/doc/libsane-hpaio/README.Debian would be a reasonable place for this note.
