Me too I don't have this problem with the vanilla kernel. Are you sure
the problem is caused by the kernel and not by the X input hotpluging?
Recent versions of X (I don't know if they are in unstable yet or only
in experimental) have input hotpluging activated. This caused some
problems for me (mainly wrong keyboard configuration on reconnect).
