i remember seeing something like that on a loaner f50 from ibm. some
kernels worked, some didn't. cort was trying to keep a tree that worked
on rs6k with limited success.
ibm suggested i upgrade the firmware to a specific version but i never
did try that. if you upgrade firmware, be sure to get something that is
*known* to work with linux. your b50 probably has something more recent
than our f50 did.
i had to go into the OF gui and spin up the disks in the raid before
running an installer so linux could find them. that was back with
~2.2.13. the disks would spin up fine when running a kernel from the hd
