You could probably have it working by using "fam" on your machine.
I'm not sure, though.
What make you think this is a bug in OOo?

I confirm it works on my Woody with GNOME 2.2 and my own backport of OOo
1.1.0. Well, it seems to work for OOo document, but not for .doc
documents... :-/ Weird!
