Bug#189088: Too difficult to have antialiasing with the freetype2 autohinter.

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.0.3-1
Severity: normal

Hi Chris,

In the freetype-devel mailing list there is an almost general
consensus that antialiasing is better with the autohinting module,
supplied by freetype2 (as opposed to the bytecode interpter).

In order to enable the autohinter in openoffice, I had to recompile
freetype2 with no bytecode support, then

    export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6

I believe this is too difficult for the ordinary user who wants a
decent antialiased layout.

I don't know how to solve this, since openoffice seems to ignore

1. any Xft settings put in .Xresources
2. /etc/fonts/local.conf

I just wanted to let you know, in case you can think of something. :-)
