Hi

	until the patch makes it in upstream, it is part of the debian
 diff. In other words, fork off a branch, and apply the patch to the
 working sources. The changes made shall show up in the diff.gz file
 for the package. 

	You can still apply the patch in debian/rules, but then you
 have to put the patch in the ./debian/ directory, so you have to
 decide which is less of a hassle for you.
