Here too. It's wild! I believe it is related to Perl's UTF-8 features.
They were recently turned on in Lintian. Strings can be 'upgraded'
anytime. According to preliminary experiments it causes mismatches
here:

The check is on my list to be rewritten. Now it is more urgent. Thanks
