   You can download the .deb file and use the 'ar' command to
   extract the arhive:
   
   mkdir package
   cd package/
   apt-get -d install package.deb
   	(the file is downloaded to /var/cache/apt/archives/ )
   cp /var/cache/apt/archives/package.deb .	
   ar x *
   	(this extracts the archived files)
   tar zxf archive1.tar.gz
   tar zxf archive2.tar.gz
   ...
   You should now have the entire package broken out to files and
   the appropriate directory structure.
