Yes, that's what I did - exactly that.

What do you mean by "it's kind of windows"?

Patch the kernel? I did not compile it in the first place - I use the
regular Knoppix kernel.

I modified the ####'s at the end of syslinux.cfg to start with "foo" and
end with "bar". Thus, I could see from /proc/cmdline that Knoppix and/or
syslinux erroneously copied the last append-line to the command line for
this kernel.
