It would need a slightly different approach, because the rules.gen is
generated. Sjoerd Simons proposed the changes in
https://salsa.debian.org/kernel-team/firmware-nonfree/merge_requests/10
.
The packaging itself needs more changes to be finalized, but the
support is now commited.
