Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-5
Severity: normal

My laptop computer can be identified by:
    sys_vendor   = "Hewlett-Packard"
    sys_product  = "Pavilion zd8000 (EL030EA#ABF)     "
    sys_version  = "F.34     "
    bios_version = "F.34     "

Before the Linux Kernel 2.6 tried to directly handle Suspend/Resume, I could achieve Suspend/Resume manually with the command 's2ram -f -p' from package 'uswsusp'.

Since the Linux Kernel 2.6 tried to directly handle Suspend/Resume, it never worked.

But now for the first time, Linux Kernel 2.6.32-5 (+ associated packages) SUCCEEDS at handling Suspend/Resume (with minor problems).

Lot of thanks. I was waiting for that for 5 years, because Suspend/Resume is absolutely necessary for laptop computers. When Debian 'squeeze' will graduate as 'stable version', I will install it on all my laptop computers, and get rid of proprietary operating systems.

I know 4 methods to trigger Suspend:

1) Hit the 'Sleep' button:
    -  Suspend systematically succeeds.
- After Suspend has succeeded, when I trigger Resume by hitting the 'Power' button, then Resume also systematically succeeds, by displaying the 'Password' dialog.

2) Hit the 'Power' button or Ctrl-Alt-Del:
    A pop-up dialog asks me what I really want to do.
    - When I choose 'Suspend', Suspend systematically succeeds.
- After Suspend has succeeded, when I trigger Resume by hitting the 'Power' button, then Resumes systematically succeeds, but systematically displays a black screen. I have to hit 'Shift' or move the mouse in order to get the 'Password' dialog displayed.

3) Close the lid of the laptop:
    Systematically:
- At the first try, the screen becomes black, but the computer does NOT suspend.
    - At the second try, Suspend succeeds.
- After Suspend has succeeded, when I open the lid of the laptop, then Resume also systematically succeeds, by displaying the 'Password' dialog.

4) Wait the time configured inside the Gnome Power Manager dialog:
    -  Suspend systematically succeeds.
- After Suspend has succeeded, when I trigger Resume by hitting the 'Power' button, then Resume also systematically succeeds, by displaying the 'Password' dialog.

In order the ease the correction of future regression bugs of Suspend/Resume, I give below the version of packages which I suppose could participate to the current overall success of Suspend/Resume:

Hi,
your bug has been filed against the "linux-2.6" source package and was filed for
a kernel older than the recently released Debian 7.x / Wheezy with a severity
less than important.

We don't have the ressources to reproduce the complete backlog of all older kernel
bugs, so we're closing this bug for now. If you can reproduce the bug with Debian Wheezy
or a more recent kernel from testing or unstable, please reopen the bug by sending
a mail to control@bugs.debian.org with the following three commands included in the
mail:

reopen BUGNUMBER
reassign BUGNUMBER src:linux
thanks

Cheers,
        Moritz
