kde 4.8.3 packages from experimental-snapshot successfully installed on debian wheezy
Hello,
I managed to install the kde 4.8.3 packages from experimental-snapshot on a
debian wheezy system.
aptitude -t experimental-snapshots dist-upgrade
didn't work for me (it would uninstall kde-workspace and some libplasma-xyz).
So I used synaptic, sorted the package list by new version, selected all kde-
related 4.8.x packages and tried to apply the selection. No success because of
an unmet dependency on libpng15.
I downloaded that package from the experimental repo and installed it manually
by dpkg -i libpng15 ... (cannot remember the exact package name).
After that back in synaptic there still was a complaint about a dependency on
klipper 4.8.3. So I first installed that package and then selected the rest of
the 4.8.3 packages. And voila, all packages have been downloaded and
installed.
As far as I can tell, every thing seems to work (I tested kmail 4.4.11.1 from
testing with 2 imap accounts one connected via davmail to an exchange server,
activities, desktop effects, gwenview with kipi-plugins and the opengl-
diashow).
Very impressive is the look and feel of the new display engine in dolphin when
you are in symbol view and zoom the symbol size by pressing ctrl - + or ctrl -
-. It looks like MAC OS ;-)
All together the desktop feels more smoothly (look at the "show windows"
effect.
Thanks to the package maintainers for their work.
