kdeinit runs amok and gets killed by Kernel OOM killer

Hi,
I have a pretty weird problem. This happened the first time
yesterday, and again today. Yesterday, my music suddenly stopped
playing. I went to look and my xmms was gone. Well, I restarted it
and it just disappeared again. Then KMail disappeared.
So I logged into a root console and found out that kdeinit was
running amok (i.e. using all CPU time and memory) and that the kernel
OOM killer was therefore killing processes. Today, I came back to my
computer after a longer absences and my whole KDE was gone - kdeinit
got killed by the OOM killer.
Why is this starting to happen now? I did a system upgrade one or two
days ago, updating all packages to woody and some (i.e. all KDE
packages and mozilla) to unstable. I never noticed this before and
now it happened twice in two days.
Any ideas what I could do or where this could come from? Might this
be related to GPM? I don't know why but I have this weird feeling
that this might be the problem (GPM was updated during my last system
update).
