A chuckle and a news report...

Couldn't help but get a chuckle out of *that* line... heh heh! I've
been reading along with great interest on the contesting mini-distro.
VERY GOOD IDEA!

I've been informed that my audio report for Newsline regarding Bdale's
recent election to DPL was accepted for air this coming Friday (always
subject to pre-emption by more important news, of course).

In the original, while trying to keep the report short (you have to
understand they have a limited amount of "airtime" for all the articles)
I made some nice comments about Debian's commitment to truly free
software, quality, and "even" ham radio.

The main focus was on Bdale's election and some VERY simplified past
"history" of who Bdale is and that Debian is a Linux distribution (since
that won't be obvious to much of the intended audience).

Due to time constraints, we'll see how the final edit shakes out.
There's always the possibility that much or all of the report could end
up on the "cutting room" floor, digitally of course... no doubt, it will
at the very least be a little sound byte that mentions Debian, Bdale,
hopefully free software.

http://www.arnewsline.org for those not familiar with the organization.

If it ends up saying enough about Debian to be interesting, if I forget
will someone post it to debian-publicity or whatever the appropriate
place to put things like that these days is? Other Debian folks may get
a kick out of hearing that we hams being the small but proud and VOCAL
bunch we are, already have aired the news worldwide! And not via
e-mail, but LITERALLY over the air. :-)

I may have made one slight bobble... I think I said he'd be the 2002
leader... well, elected in 2002, and... well, whatever... folks will get
the idea! Also if there had been even CLOSE to enough time to list off
a few of the other VERY active hams in Debian, I'd have given it a try
-- but there's just no way to cram it all in there. I'd even have
mentioned that at least one previous DPL was a ham, if it were a longer
piece!

I'll probably be as surprised at the final cut as you are! :-) I know
I was when I did an interview with Antartica over IRLP... they actually
made my meandering interview sound pretty darn professional -- sign of a
great volunteer editing staff! (BIG GRIN)
