[Debian-NYC] Fosdem vs Libreplanet and Oscon.

So I was told that Fosdem is one of the biggest Free Software events on the planet, with attendance numbers that sound incredible. (Thousands). It got me wondering if we have similar events in the US, and the two I came up with are Libreplanet and OSCON. (East and West coast events respectively.)

Looking at attendance numbers seems to bear this out. (Fosdem is huge with people traveling from around the world to attend, and the US events not so huge.)

I'm wondering why is this so? Is it because the US is more Capitalist and Europe more Socialist? Or are there other reasons?

My apologies for my ignorance in advance.

Thanks,
Brian

P.S. - I haven't been to any of the above events.
