It sounds unnecessarily confrontational---it's daring people to disagree
with you. It's going to get up the hackles of even those people who
know what Ulrich Drepper is like to deal with.
Trust the community to be reasonable, and it will trust you to do the
right thing, too. Communicate to the community in a reasonable fashion,
and it will do likewise. Be opaque, secretive and confrontational,
well...GIGO.

Which is entirely reasonable, and I don't think anyone has suggested
that these are not important things---and if you had sent a message to
a list read by some significant portion of the community, outlining
exactly those things, this would have likely been a non-issue.
But the presentation---or lack thereof---of the issues was done in a
way that might as well have been precision-engineered to create a
backlash. That is not effective communication.
