The bug seems really old, so maybe it didn't exist back when it
was originally reported, but right now there is a possibility
to subscribe a particular package's traffic. E.g., look at
the following page:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/thttpd.html
there is a "Subscription - Package Tracking System" form there,
that allows to add one's e-mail to all the package related
notifications, inlcuding new bugs etc.
As for getting updates on interesting bugs, I must say that this
indeed is a needed feature. Currently it is possible to hack
by filing a deliberate duplicate on a bug that already exists
that you are interested in, then requesting a merge of the 2 bugs.
Tempting as it might be, I am not doing that, (assuming that if
everybody does it, it would overload the BTS with stupid duplicates),
although I have several bugs that I really would like to get
notifications about -- instead I maintain a special bookmark page
with the relevant bugs URLs, polling them.
