yes, this was just the second part of my idea.
I was just dreaming about a *menu* of partitions to install grub to
(just to overcome the present problem) and set the *default* selection
on that menu on the /boot device or / device of the system just
installed, because for my experience this is the majority of the use
cases, so letting the installer propose a sane default would be
desiderable.
modifying the grub install default, autodetermining where to install
and *don't* leaving the final word to the user doing the install
is not the correct way, IMHO, to resolve this issue.
In addition, it would be nice to do a multiselection in this selection menu,
to be able to install grub in the boot sector of mirrored disks when using
the software-raid present in linux.
this was just my idea.
