I expect this happens only during the ab run and the defunct processes
disappear when ab is finished. This is not a bug, then. Processes
that have terminated but for which the parent process has not yet
retrieved the exit status are shown as defunct. Under high load, this
can take some seconds.

Ah, but I didn't noticed them with the new libmysqlclient15off
I told the guy who I helped to make a bugreport but he didn't want to unfortunatly

He got these messages in his log

[Sun Jul 13 22:56:02 2008] [warn] child process 4322 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Sun Jul 13 22:56:02 2008] [warn] child process 4323 still did not exit, sending a SIGTERM [Sun Jul 13 22:56:04 2008] [error] child process 3283 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL [Sun Jul 13 22:56:04 2008] [error] child process 3285 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL [Sun Jul 13 22:56:04 2008] [error] child process 3352 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL
...
[Sun Jul 13 22:56:05 2008] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down

He said Apache 2.2.8 and PHP 5.2.5 worked and if he only update one of them it didn't work anymore I think he even had this problem with running PHP as FastCGI and not just as an Apache module

I told him to update libapr1 and libaprutil1 because of that libmysqlclient_r.so change in PHP but that didn't help Only as he updated after that libmysqlclient15off from etch to lenny version it worked

I really would love to give you a link to the thread but it's a private forum where only customers of that company are allowed to even read the threads.
And they really check that on registering
But it's german so it propable won't help you anyway

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The dependency will be set
during the compilation of apr-util by the shlibs file in the
libmysqlclient15off package that was used to compile apr-util. The
current -dev package still lists 5.0.27-1 in its shlibs file, so that
should work. If it doesn't, that would be a bug in
libmysqlclient15off. But as stated above, I don't think there is a
problem.

Urm yeah.
I can only use ab to try that, I don't have my own webserver running a big website to test this in realtime Maybe it's really not worth to further look into this but I'll try if I can reproduce that somehow Should be very rare using the old libraries from etch with apache and php from lenny
