Well, yes, part of the fuss was about PCI-X. Of course, most of the
fuss was about those dissapointing NV30 and NV33 things, but PCI-X got
it's share, too. PCI-X as it is supports transfer rates that match AGP
4x. PCI-X 2.0 supports AGP 8x-like rates and twice as much, too.

Well, if it's implemented cleanly (and there habe been some really ugly
PCI controllers out there in the past), it should be comparable to
currently available technologies. If the motherboard manufactures do
it right (HP and SGI have got such done-right systems) putting multiple
graphic adapters operating at full speed on these systems should be
possible.
