Hi Christian,
How about we start by listing the obstacles to get there? Cory already documented one under Obstacles [1] of our 5.7 release plan, for src:rocm-device-libs upon which rocm-hipamd depends. Cory also already shared a proposed fix [2].
rocm-device-libs-17 is already in experimental, so that library
is done. Once we update rocm-compilersupport and rocm-hipamd,
we'll have finished everything needed to move to LLVM 17.
There are some difficulties updating rocm-compilersupport [1],
but they're not insurmountable. The rocm-hipamd update is going to
be painful because the sources for that project have been shuffled
around upstream and we have a lot of patches to rebase.
Sincerely,
Cory Bloor
